WELCOME TO CLASS 4!
Class 4 will be taught by Mrs Jones. Mrs Empsall will teach Science on a Monday afternoon during Mrs Jones’ planning time. We are also delighted to welcome student teacher Miss Morris to the team.

The children will be taught PE on both Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. On these days, they can come to school in their PE kits. Please note that we will be out in even the coldest weather so please ensure your child has a school tracksuit.
This term, homework will continue to be set on a Monday to be returned or completed online for the following Monday.
Homework each week will be detailed in your child’s purple spelling book and will consist of -
- 15 minutes online times table practise – on Times Table Rock Stars
- MyMaths (online)
- English – 2 pages to be completed each week
- Reading – 5 times per week
- Spellings (to include writing the spellings in sentences)
In Key Stage 2, children continue to secure their reading skills and are encouraged to read widely and regularly to develop their vocabulary. Children are also taught how to justify their views regarding what they have read, which further develops their comprehension skills.
Each half term, the children will sit a STAR reader test which will determine their book level. This is calculated by testing the children’s understanding of a wide range of levelled text types. It is really important that your child reads within the recommended book level as books that are outside of this range will be either too easy or difficult to understand. All books in school are levelled and books from home can be checked on www.arbookfind.co.uk Your child’s book level will be written in their purple spelling book.
To support reading, it is important that children continue to read regularly to an adult at home at least 5 times per week. Reading sessions should include discussion of characters and plot or retrieval of information to help your child develop their comprehension skills.
Please ensure that your child’s reading books are in school every day as they will also read regularly in class.
The Millionaires’ Club will also continue and certificates will be awarded for children reaching a word count of 250k, 500k, 750k and 1 million words. Certificates are presented during Celebration assembly on Friday afternoon.
MyMaths now longer requires the use of Flash Player which should mean all activities can now be completed on a tablet as well as a PC or laptop.
Spellings will continue in the same format this term and they are getting harder! Please support your child to learn these thoroughly. Copies of the spellings are now available on the school website under the Class 4 page. Class 3 are trialling a new online spelling approach and this may roll out in Class 4, later in the year, if feedback is positive.
Thank you for all your support at home. It is much appreciated.
